CEBI
members have a unique opportunity to see, in person, how an
American company is extending its manufacturing business into a
"knowledge" business. An essential strategy, if
you believe Alvin Toffler, author of Revolutionary Wealth
(and Future Shock).
The
core premise of Toffler's book is that there have been only
three systems of wealth creation in the history of man --
agricultural production, industrial production and knowledge.
Wealth creation through agriculture is already history.
Industrial production is declining. Knowledge is exploding as a
wealth-creating model.
One
could argue, then, that American companies (and people) still
counting on manufacturing as their wealth creation strategy
should be considering ways to add a knowledge component to what
they do -- to make their business model less dependent on a
declining wealth creation model. Consider IBM, formerly a
manufacturing company, now a software company -- perhaps the
only long-term survivor in the systems business.
This
is a unique opportunity to visit a company that's also doing
that, as an optional activity on Wednesday before the Fall
Summit opens. We'll be guests of Cooper Lighting's SOURCE
facility, only a few minutes from the Wyndham Peachtree.
The SOURCE is a combination customer briefing center, training
center, e-learning center and a lot more. Several
CEBI members have visited there as guests of Cooper, and all say
it's worth the trip. See: http://www.cooperlighting.com/content/source/source_overview.cfm
The
shuttle van will pick us up at the Wyndham at 3:30 on Wednesday,
November 18, and return us to the hotel in plenty of time for
the Welcome Reception.
So,
plan to arrive in Peachtree City a little earlier than you
otherwise would, to take advantage of this unique opportunity. See
you in Georgia!
