have found this type of mastermind group to be THE most valuable
thing that I have done to help me grow not only as a

The quotes above are member
comments on an interesting
article about "Mastermind Groups", another name
for what we do at CEBI. It makes a compelling case for
the value of ideas and perspectives from peers outside your
own company.
While the article suggests
that one could create his own Mastermind Group, most people
realize that membership in a national organization such as
CEBI is an easier, broader and cheaper alternative, when
considering the time it would take to build and maintain
your own equivalent of our Local and National Boards.

REMEDI Electronic Commerce Group
Named to Inc. 5000 Fastest Growing
REMEDI
Electronic Commerce Group, owned by CEBI members Brad Loetz (Columbus Board) and
Scott Hulme (Cincinnati Board) has been listed by Inc. Magazine in its annual
ranking of the
5000 Fastest Growing Private Companies in America.
REMEDI
specializes exclusively in the development, integration, and implementation of
business-to-business Electronic Data Interchange ( EDI ) solutions. In its
15th year in business, REMEDI is one of the original EDI-specific consulting and
placement firms, and is among the very few who maintain the “only EDI”
focus. The firm’s niche focus allows it to be the best among the EDI
domain of knowledge.
Congratulations to Brad, Scott
and the REMEDI team for this prestigious recognition. Link

Fed Economist to Speak at Fall
Summit
Our
Thursday evening speaker at the Fall Summit will be economist John
Weinberg Ph.D., Senior Vice President and Director of Research for the
Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond.
The author of numerous papers
on economics and the effects of economic policy on business, John will be
presenting his outlook for the US economy and US business, a week after
the November elections. His remarks should be most interesting,
informative and provocative.
If you haven't registered for the Fall
Summit, November 13-14, Click
Here to do so. Remember, you need to both reserve a hotel room
(act now -- rooms are limited) and register with CEBI for the Summit.
3 Ways to be Sure
Your Company's Salaries are Competitive
CEBI members realize that competitive
salaries are one of the essentials in retaining employees. But how can you
determine what competitive wages are for different jobs in your local
market?
A number of salary comparison websites have
sprung up, each with a slightly different twist. They range from no-cost,
self-reporting sites, where employees post their own salaries and compare them
to the market to salary survey sites whose business models include a moderate
charge for the information you need.

Anything Worth Doing is Worth
Doing Wrong
I had a
conversation on an airplane last year with a sales manager who had just taken
over a new sales force. One of the things he said about that group was "I've
had to teach them that anything worth doing is worth doing wrong". What
a fascinating idea, and an interesting way to communicate it. I asked him what
he meant by that, and he said: "I'm trying to help them understand that
there's more honor in trying something and screwing it up than in not trying
anything at all." Since
that conversation, I've become more conscious of how few organizations
encourage, or even allow mistakes. Founding business owners seem to
have the toughest time standing aside and letting their key managers or
employees take initiative and make mistakes. This promotes the
"answer man" syndrome -- employees coming to you with problems they
should be handling on their own. And it's also an inherent
limitation to growth. Click
